Privacy Policy
What data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over it.
Brieflee respects your privacy. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We aim for clarity over legalese.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your email address, a display name, and a password (stored as a one-way bcrypt hash; we cannot see your actual password). That's it. We don't ask for or collect your real name, phone number, address, or any other identifying information at signup.
Subscription preferences
We record which topic packs you subscribe to and any custom keywords you've configured. We also store your roadmap progress (which items you've marked as planned, in progress, or completed) and your UI preferences (theme choice).
Brief delivery records
We log when briefs are sent to you and to which email address. We do this to ensure delivery, troubleshoot issues, and measure platform health.
Server logs
Like any web service, our servers automatically log certain information when you visit: IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, timestamps. These logs are kept for 30 days for security and debugging, then deleted.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers
- We do not use Google Analytics or similar
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, ever
- We do not build behavioral profiles for advertising purposes
How we use your information
- To deliver the daily briefs you've subscribed to
- To personalize the content shown to you based on your subscriptions
- To send you account-related emails (welcome, password resets, subscription confirmations)
- To respond to your support requests
- To improve the platform based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
Third-party services we use
To run Brieflee, we use a small number of trusted infrastructure services:
- Railway — our hosting provider (where the app runs)
- Resend — our transactional email service (delivers your briefs)
- Cloudflare — DNS and security infrastructure
These services have their own privacy policies and security standards. We only share with them what's strictly necessary to operate.
Your rights and choices
Access your data
You can view and edit your subscriptions, roadmap progress, and preferences from your account at any time. For data we don't display in the app, email support@brieflee.io and we'll send you a full export.
Delete your account
You can cancel your account anytime from the account settings page. Cancellation triggers a 30-day soft-delete grace period during which you can restore your account simply by logging in. After 30 days, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted.
Unsubscribe from emails
Every brief email contains an unsubscribe link. You can also remove specific topic packs from your subscription page without canceling your whole account.
European users (GDPR)
If you're in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge complaints with your local data protection authority. Email support@brieflee.io with any specific requests and we'll respond promptly.
California users (CCPA)
If you're a California resident, you have rights under CCPA including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to deletion, and the right to opt out of sale of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information, period).
Security
We take security seriously. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes with appropriate work factors. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Database connections use SSL. Access to production systems is limited to authorized personnel only.
That said, no system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a security issue with Brieflee, please email support@brieflee.io immediately.
Children's privacy
Brieflee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we've inadvertently collected such information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Brieflee evolves. Substantive changes will be communicated by email to active users. The "last updated" date below reflects when this policy was most recently revised.
Questions?
Email support@brieflee.io with any privacy-related questions or concerns. We're happy to clarify anything in this policy.
